I was walking through a field with Horatio when I found a butterfly on the ground being attacked by a wasp.

I chased the wasp away, picked up the butterfly, and started carrying it across the field. Its wings were badly tattered, and I immediately assumed it needed rescuing. I started making plans for it — flowers, somewhere safe to rest, whatever I could do to help.

Then, before I even made it out of the field, it flew away.

Not on repaired wings. Not because the damage had disappeared.

It flew away on the same tattered wings it already had.

That image has stayed with me.

There are things we go through that change us. Some damage doesn’t get undone. You can’t untatter a butterfly’s wings.

And maybe resilience isn’t always about fixing yourself, becoming better, or getting back to who you were before.

Sometimes resilience is simply continuing with what you have.

Still moving. Still living. Still flying.

Tattered Wings is a reminder that you don’t have to be untouched, perfectly healed, or perfectly put together to keep going.

You can be tattered and still fly.
